Keeping Braids AGLOW

Keeping Braids Aglow
Braids form its glow on the head, draws attention to the wearers/ladies face, adding to her natural beauty. Braids allow you rock versatile hairstyles.

Despite the usefulness of this beauty item, you have to maintain it well, to get the best out of it.

How to maintain your braids
1.Styling, when it comes to braids styling is 'importanter'. There are various styles to select from, hot water curls, feathers, Ghana weave-in, pick and drop, brush , twisting, bob, marley(dreads), plait braid, periwinkle curls, etc. Size matters a lot when braiding. Choosing your preferred braid size will help you manage and extend out the life. Ssize-wise, do you want it 'big big' or small? Whichever style you choose matters on the longevity or its durability crucially, so pick wisely. If you're not quite certain with the style, ask a friend or a good hairstylist for assistance.

When youre finally ready to braid, at a saloon, make sure that someone in the saloon knows how to do it, show them a picture for clarity, don't assume. Unless you want to end up with a tacky braid. Go to a professional.

2.Quality
Make sure you get a quality hair attachment. Youll be able to tell this, by touching. There are various types ranging from human hair, which looks and feel most natural, to the synthetic, shiny and elastic. The synthetic hair is more budget friendly, but speaking quality wise is another thing.

Although there are some quality synthetic attachment, but unravelling the secret boils down to the hairdresser/hairstylist or the seller. Make sure you go to a professional.
There is also another called the yarn braid, this looks great with thick twist and absorbs hair products better than synthetic hair.

Before purchase, run your fingers through the hair, If its too springy or to tangly know its synthetic, the worst kind of synthetic hair. And probably fake. Never get carried away by the packaging or what is written on the pack. Remember, always run your fingers through.

3. Is your hair healthy?
Check your natural hair, is it healthy? Braids normally put strain on the hair, so if your hair is too brittle or weak or recovering from damage, steer clear from braids, especially the long ones. This is why most people experience cutting or balding spots. If a braid falls your hair will fall out too. Be careful and avoid further damage.

4.Prep your hair
Hair prepping is one of the secrets, so shhhh! Before going down into braiding, prep your hair first. wash and condition your hair especially if its virgin hair, ask your dresser to put in a protective styling gel or cream before blow drying and straightening it. Straightening your virgin hair will help give it a more seemless natural look, it helps make the pain more bearable and it saves half the time of parting , combing, and picking. Remember a happy hairdresser, is a happy hair and a happier you.

If your hair isn't virgin, relaxing it again wouldn't be a bad idea, use a good relaxer and make sure you do it a day or two before going to braid, laying stress on your hair isn't advisable.

Another tip for natural hair users, is to do the above first, and then ask for a brush technique style. The brush style leaves allowance for you to gel the front and sides of your natural hair. Because if we're honest, this are the areas that tends to come undone later on. Gelling will stick those run-offs back in place and make the hair look like you had it done just Yesterday. Talk about laying those baby hairs too!
Non-natural users can also try out this tip.
When your hair is properly prepped, you'll have zero problems!

5.Avoid tightening
Whoever told you that the tighter the hair the longer it lasts, is a foul player! If your hairdresser or beautician is braiding your hair too tight, do not hesitate to let him or her know. There is no need going back home with a severe headache or neck pain all in the name of beauty, just to make the weave last. A tight hair could eventually lead to damaged hair, snapping or breaking. Its not worth it sis.
Your comfort and health of your hair should be your priority.

6.spritz
Spritzing your hair often with a moisturizer, will help keep the hair soft and frizz free. To achieve this run cold water or normal room temperature water over your braids, make sure a little touches your scalp too. Dry of with a clean, fresh smelling towel, rub gently going downwards not upwards or up and down. Move in one direction, that direction should be downwards
Or better still leave it to air-dry, it will only take an hour or two tops. Once dry go about spritzing. Do this at least once every 2 weeks. Your will look just as new.

7. wash and cream
The hair can be a sweaty smelling ground if you let it. Use a regular soap or shampoo, nothing fancy, to get rid of smell and itching hair. Allow it to completely air dry or blow dry. Then apply hair cream to the roots (the parting) of your hair, and braids, you only need so little. Go for anti-dandruff hair creams, to keep those hair pests away. Damatol is a very good example, that is if youre looking for a decent smelling hair cream.
You can do this at home or at a professional saloon.
