HOW TO MAKE JUICE AND SMOOTHIES
Juice and smoothie drinks are refreshing, particularly in the morning or after a meal.
Step 1. Prepare your fruits and vegetables by washing them under running water first. then remove any part that might be tough or bitter.
Remove the eyes, seeds and fibrous core, e.g pinapples. Split apples cucumbers, avocados, watermelons and similar fruits and vegetables, e.g carrots,cabbage, lettuce.
Remove seeds and any stem.
Use seedless grapes.
Peel bananas, oranges, mangoes or any other fruit or vegetable with a tough skin.
Remove the pith of citrus fruits. (Those white stuff)
Step 2. Prepare your mixer or juicer, make sure it is properly cleaned and dry before you begin.
Step 3. Chop your fruits into chunks of an inch and veggies into bits. A standard food processor or blender can only take 2cm or 2.5cm (1in) of chunks.
Step 4. add a cup of water and blend, till you have the smoothness you desire. Drier fruits and vegetables such as banana, carrots, will require more water.
Step 5. Mix and match, using flavour, nutrition or even simple aesthetics as your guide. Also consider unlikely sources for juice in cabbage, lettuce or parsley.
Step 6. Use a rainbow approach, mix different fruits and vegetables to get a wider range of nutrients.
Step 7. spice it up
Yes many fruits and veggies have an abundance of natural sugars, but sometimes it is also advisable to spice it up. Adding salt for instance into your pinapples will help enhance its sweetness, try it out. Sprinkle some pepper and coconut for a tropical feel. You can also add honey or a little sugar to your smoothies and juices if necessary.
