Two simple ways to make almond oil at home

Almond oil is a type of carrier oil that contains plenty of Vitamin E and oleic acids. This makes it a great ingredient for skin and hair products as it has a moisturizing and nourishing effect. Continue reading for ways you can make almond oil at home.

Making almond oil with a blender

The first method will be great for people that have a lot of time and an electric blender in their kitchen.

For making almond oil with a blender, you will need:

⚪ A blender

⚪ Two cups of raw almonds

⚪ 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil

Instructions:

Step 1. Put the almonds in a blender. For best results use fresh dry nuts and leave the skins on.

Step 2. Start blending the almonds at slow speed. Gradually increase the speed once they are thoroughly crushed. Pause every now and again to scrape the almonds off the inside of the blender.

Step 3. Once the crushed almonds start to gather up into a ball, add some olive oil and continue blending. If you think that the paste is still too thick, add the rest of the olive oil.

Step 4. After the blending is complete, and the mixture is of the right consistency, get it out of the blender and put it in a plastic container or a glass jar.

Step 5. Leave the container with the almond mixture to sit for two weeks at room temperature. During this time, the actual almond oil will separate from the rest of the mixture.

Step 6. Take a strainer or a piece of gauzy fabric and drain the oil through it into another container. You should leave it for some time to get all the oil out.

Step 7. Your homemade almond oil is ready to use! You can use it to moisturize your skin or for hair care purposes. The leftovers are actually edible, so you don’t have to throw them away.

☑ Pros of using this method:

It is easy and cheap, as you do not need any special equipment.

☒ Cons:

It takes a longer time to make almond oil this way. You have to wait for two whole weeks for it to be ready. In addition, this method requires the use of olive oil, which might not be suitable for everyone.

Making almond oil with an oil press

If you don’t have two weeks to wait and have some money to spare, consider buying an oil press. Most presses nowadays are easy to use even for one person. They are not made only for producing almond oil; you can use the press for making other sorts of oils, too.

For this method, you will need:

⚪ An oil press

⚪ Two cups of roasted (!) almonds

Instructions:

Step 1. Place your oil press on a stable horizontal surface. Put a container under it to catch the oil.

Step 2. Put the almonds in the designated funnel at the top of the press.

Step 3. Turn the lever and start pressing the almonds.

Step 4. You are done! No waiting required. Although, if you want your almond oil to be clear, leave it for the night to let the residue settle down.

☑ Pros of using this method:

It is fast, as you don’t have to wait two whole weeks for the result. It also does not require olive oil.

☒ Cons:

Making almond oil using this method requires special equipment that not everyone can afford.

So there you have it, two ways of making almond oil at home. Whether you wait for fourteen days or buy an oil press, it’s up to you. Either way you will get your wonderful aromatic almond oil to use for your hair and skin.
